Ultimate Summer Drink Guide

Ever get to the bar or restaurant and you don’t know what to order to drink? Either you are too hungry to decide or you want to branch out from your usual go to libation. Well don’t fear, your ultimate drink guide is here! Summer is quickly approaching, below is a summer beverage guide to quench your thirst!

Starting with some really great beer options. Often times those fancy cocktails are a bit out of price range, and you can never go wrong with a good brewski!

Okay so if you have never tried Hoegarrden, I would say stop what you are doing, and hit your local bar or liquor store now, but I would hate for you to loose your place! This is the beer that the popular Blue Moon, by Coors copied. If you ask me, it doesn’t really compare. Hoegarrden is an unfiltered wheat beer with a cloudy yellow tone. Best served with a lemon or orange.


Now this one is not for everyone, it has mixed reviews, and to be honest I don’t perfer it unless its served in a tin bottle, like above. Bud Light lime is so easy to drink and pretty much the perfect outdoor summer activity beer. When it comes in a tin bottle, not only does it taste better, stays colder longer, but its also accepted pool side where glass bottles are not!

Lets talk wine!

A glass of Rose’ is perfect for summer. Its served iced cold. (I even sometimes put ice cubes it in) With its pretty color and floral flavor, its a great wine choice for summer, over just a classic white.

Moscato is a sweet and refreshing bubbly wine, similar to champagne but much much sweater and even easier to drink!


Sangria the “adult” jungle juice. This concoction comes with a warning label, it goes down like juice, but is very potent! Sangria is a mix of hard alcohol, wine, juice, and assorted fruits. A great thing about sangria is, if you like red wine, there is red sangria, and if you prefer white wine, go for the white sangria.

This next cocktail is a simple but delicious choice.

Its like a watermelon made out with pineapple, and after a few of these, you might be making out with someone too! Midori is a melon flavored liquor and pared with pineapple juice it makes a perfect tropical bliss!

Cant go wrong here, Margaritas are tequila based and one of the most popular summer beverages around. Although I drink margaritas all year round, in the summer I order them blended, verses on the rocks. A Slushy perfection!

Don’t knock it till you try it! (so I’ve heard) I have never tried a Pimms and Lemonade, but my roomie from the UK insisted it be on the list of recommended summer drinks. Pimms is a gin like liqueur, and apparently, pared with lemonade, it makes a brilliant refreshment. (Cant wait to get my hands on some PIMMS!)

Lime juice, soda water, mint and rum! pretty much the best mix ever, when it comes to summer beverages!

Last but certainly not least, my absolute favorite summer beverage!!!

The caipirinha is a Brazilian classic made with 3 ingredients; muddled lime, raw sugar and Cachaca liquor.  Very potent, refreshing, and easy to drink! It was love at first sight. The first time I had ever had a caipirinha was on South Beach in Miami Florida. At first glance I thought, “oh a Mojto”, but I was quickly corrected the moment I took my first sip! Although if you like mojitos you will love caipirinhas. Basically the best thing ever!!!

After all this, aren’t you thirsty now? Although I urge you try all these great summer drinks, I encourage you to drink responsibly, and try to avoid that dreadful thing we call a “hangover.”

Thirsty Thursday , Iced Coffee


Hi lovies!

It’s Thirsty Thursday over here at xrtrafrosting! I don’t know about y’all, but coffee is my jam!  I can’t seem to get enough coffee. It has been surprisingly very warm around these parts and I find myself longing for a cold, fresh rejuvenating and energizing beverage.

I channeled my inner barista and came up with a tasty little iced coffee treat, literally, iced, coffee. You’ll see what i mean if you keep scrolling…

All you need is three ingredients

photo (3)All though I like my coffee, I do however, like my coffee weak…I did grow up Mormon after all (they don’t drink coffee).  I used a vanilla flavored coffee.  If you want a more bold, strong coffee, go with a dark roast, and if you want the best of both worlds, use dark coffee and sub the 1/2 and 1/2 for vanilla creamer.

Don’t you hate it when you grab an iced coffee on your lunch break and that mid day refreshment taste so good you want it to last all day? But by the end its totally diluted by the melted ice… Well, with this recipe your iced coffee will last you all day long and only get stronger and tastier in as the day goes on!

Happy Birthday!

A year has past and so have the goals I didn’t meet! New-year, new goals, new motivation, new ideas, new inspirations, same blog. Putting the past behind me and learning to forgive myself. We are our own worst enemy; we need to learn to befriend ourselves.  When I started this blogging journey I set some very unrealistic goals for myself, and I made a lot of mistakes. In the end I learned more than I ever thought I would.  As I look back, although I didn’t accomplish my goals this year, I cant be too hard on myself , cause at the end of the day, or year in this case, I did the best I could. If there is one thing I learned this year, 2014, I learned we are all so hard on ourselves, this causes stress and anxiety, and going forward  in 2015 I hope to achieve my goals, but know if it doesn’t happen, its OK, there is always next year…


This last year I have been inspired by SO many people in my life. I could not be more proud of these people and loved ones. The things each of these people have accomplished this year makes it extremely hard to be easy on myself, but It shows, everyone is different.

I want to recognize each of these people and share with you how they inspire me to be a better person each and day.  Starting with my one and only, my love, my husband. Joey has accomplished so much this year. He has gone through the hardest academic journey there is, and come May he will have a Dr. in front of his name and an MD at the end.  I have never seen my husband so busy! He inspires me to keep moving and keep going, but when its time to rest, rest! I think it’s the secret to his success.

On to the people who never rest, no rest for the wicked type of chics, my sisters. they are always on the go. A perfect stay at home mom, a young adult that will be graduating and will attend vet school in 2017.  These girls inspire me to all ends! Nicolle, she is the ultimate domesticated goddess to making sure everyone is ok to making everyone ok.  She inspires me to be prepared for anything. Kelsy, she is constantly on the go, its hard to keep track of this one. Kelsy inspires me to always keep my options open,  save my money for a rainy day and eat as much cereal as I want! No, but seriously, these two are everything to me and its so important and an necessity to my happiness that they remain, and be a big part of my life, if not the biggest part of my life.

By now you are probably thinking, wow, what great inspirational people you have in your life, no wonder its hard to keep up sometimes.  But wait, just wait. I have this really awesome best friend, I like to call her Hanavan.  This year Hanavan has accomplished so much, and she literally leaves me in awe. Much like my husband she is also achieving a career in the medical field and with that comes a long hard academic journey.  Seeing my bestie in such a great place brings me such excitement and makes me long to have the same. She moved closer to her family, got accepted to Denver Nursing Program, newly -wed, domesticated goddess, and the best fur mom ever!  Hanavan inspires me to never forget about me and my wants, and goals, achieve things and accomplish things on my own, she might be the only people who can truly inspire me to eat healthier and become more active. She is always there for me when I need her and always has the right answers.

I have a lot of very strong people in my life, my loved and friends have been through quite a lot in their lives just like most.  My mother in law is one of those strong women.  In just this year the amount of things thrown her way put a lot of people’s complaints to shame.  Minerva, she not only moved, again, for I believe the 20th time in her life, to be closer to family in her journey to be happier and healthier.    Minerva supports so many peoples lives, it’s outrageous, her pile of mail puts your shoe collection to shame! Her father and father in law both past this year, which came with a flood more responsibility.  She inspires me to help others and support loved ones and to never let anyone struggle if they don’t have too.

So all in all this year might of not been a great year of many accomplished goals, and Im having to forgive myself for mistakes I have made, but I can look back and tell you that I did find something this year, I found my authentic feeling of gratitude.

Im so so grateful to have such inspirational and strong motivating people in my life.  If its one thing Im taking from 2014 its Gratitude!

A special thanks to Ursala Hudson, she has taught me so much and helped me every step of the way when it comes to She has helped me accomplish my blogging dreams from day one, and not a lot would be possible with out her help and support.

Beet Negroni

Hello Readers! I hope your week is winding down. Its getting closer to that time where you can put your feet up and have a drink honey! Todays cocktail inspiration is not for the faint of heart, it is packed with some very complex flavors. This recipe is not everyones cup of tea..

Add ingredients to a pint glass, along with some ice. Add another pint glass on top, firmly seal glasses. And….

Strain, stir and serve!

Cheers Ladies! This cocktail is sure to nock you off your feet, but we need that from time to time. Draw a bath, or soak your feet, put those puppies up and throw one back. And trust me, one is all you will need!

Red Wine Winter Spritzer

One more day people! Did you start your week waiting for friday? I am hoping this little pick me up drink will be just what you need to get through the next few days, until the weekend! Maybe this week is going super slow, or maybe not, say your crazy busy and overwhelmed and you could really use a break, or maybe you are having quests over and need inspiration for a beverage to serve. Whatever the reason may be, todays post is a very simple cocktail that will hit the spot!

This drink in very versatile and can also be served none alcoholic, simply by leaving it out. I like to consider this beverage a night time mimosa.

Here is what you need:

Ice is optional,  I prefer to have everything chilled, except the red wine. It is also important to add the wine first, so that it can breath in the glass as you prep for the next step. Having the wine aerate allows the flavors to be fully how too redwine drink.jpg First goes the wine, in goes the seltzer, then goes the juice. I used lime seltzer, its what came in the Costco pack. The juice is a buy one get one free from Publix. As for the red wine, this particular kind was recommended to me through Instagram. Any red wine, juice or seltzer will work, use what flavors you enjoy!final List of liquids .jpgIts not only easy to make, but its easy to drink, because the wine is diluted with deliciousness, its surprisingly light. Detox Water

 New Year Detox

Thirsty Thursday will typically consist of an alcohol beverage recipe, but this week I thought since we are all starting fresh with the New Year; why not start with detox water. Trust me your liver will thank you!

Detox water is delicious, simple to make and has a lot health benefits. I recommend drinking it the moment you start your day, even before your coffee!

Hydration is a main component to good health. I never drink water, but this year I am determined to change that!

Detox water is mainly used to flush your system from toxins.   Detox water recipes can vary, customizing to ones particular needs and taste. I went with the easier and less complicated version, that is still very beneficial, it also happens to be the one they serve at most day spas and salons.


½ Cucumber

1 Lemons

1 Limes



It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3!

Slice ingredients


Place them in a pitcher


And Add water!


For best results, place in refrigerator over night and have the first the glass in the morning.

When empty, replenish pitcher with more water, I don’t recommend doing this more than three times.  Three refills is about all you can do, without the ingredients going bad, you can taste the difference between each pitcher refill and can use your best judgment.

Health Benefits-


Cucumbers are a good source of vitamin B. Cucumbers rehydrate your body and replenish daily vitamins. These veggies are 95 percent water, keeping the body hydrated while helping the body eliminate toxins.

Cucumbers have most of the vitamins the body needs in a single day. Don’t forget to leave the skin on because the skin contains a good amount of vitamin C.  Cucumbers are known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol. These three lignans have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of several cancer types, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and prostate cancer.  The phytochemcials in cucumbers will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish many essential nutrients, reducing the intensity of both hangovers and headaches.

Cucumbers are great for digestion; the high water content and dietary fiber in cucumbers are very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system.

They are rich in vitamin A, B1, B6, C & D, foliate, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

Lemons and Limes:

Lemons and limes contain compounds called limonins, which research shows can help to fight cancers of the mouth, skin, lungs, breast and stomach. They have antibiotic and antiseptic properties. Both contain vitamin C.

Lemons and limes contain no fat and no cholesterol.  They are very high in vitamin C which helps to strengthen your immune system. These sour fruits are alkalizing for the body, helping to restore balance to the body’s pH.

These are just a few benefits. I recommend researching more in depth.

None the less, drinking water is sometimes hard and it is so easily forgotten how important it is. Two tips i can share with you to make it easier, flavor your water naturally, like above, and find something really cute to drink out of!
